Vice President & General Manager

Nexstar Media Inc., America’s largest local broadcasting company, is seeking a Vice President & General Manager to lead WCIA 3 (CBS) and WCIX 49 (MyNet) in Champaign, Illinois (DMA #90), as well as WCIA.com and the digital, mobile, and social assets associated with the station.

WCIA 3 is based in Champaign and provides coverage to Central Illinois, including Springfield and Decatur. The ideal candidate will utilize their proven skillsets and demonstrable experience in leading broadcast operational teams with sales-driven organizations, developing locally originated content, and commitment to community service to further propel our linear and digital audiences. Promoting a winning culture of teamwork within all station departments and prior success in maintaining a focus on operational efficiencies and growth in programming performance and new local revenue generation is required.

Essential Duties and Requirements

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of five years management experience at a commercial broadcast television station with accompanying digital assets.  The right fit for this position will be a seasoned and knowledgeable professional who is a driven advocate of local broadcasting and digital service to the community in which they have previously served, and a proven history of audience growth. In addition, ideal candidates should possess a strong track record of revenue achievement, share growth and financial expense understanding.  This position requires a leader with exemplary strategic vision, focused execution, and a verified understanding of local outreach and thoughtful community involvement.  In addition to having a proven track record of managing high-performing sales, and news teams, the successful candidate must be effective in collaborating with department heads and staff members, while promoting teamwork within all areas of station operations, preferably with oversight of a large staff.  The ability to engage local community leaders and develop long-term relationships with key station clients is essential.

Morning News Anchor

WCIA 3, the CBS affiliate in Champaign, Illinois, is looking for an experienced Morning News Anchor. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator with a superb on-air presence. This individual is energetic and can deliver everything from hard news to features with clarity and poise on-air, online, and on all other media platforms.  Our station is consistently #1 in the market and is known for its strong connection to the community.  At WCIA 3, you’ll find large market quality; with the family atmosphere you’d expect in a smaller market. Production Assistant

The Production Assistant is responsible for various television production duties required for live and recorded broadcasts.  The production crew works together running cameras, audio, graphics, teleprompter, and switcher to produce a professional and quality on-air product under the leadership of a director.  The department must work closely with news, sports, weather, and lifestyle talent and producers to ensure smooth preparation and execution of a clean broadcast.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Operates studio and remote cameras during live broadcasts
  • Composes and frames camera shots, applying the technical aspects of light, lenses, and camera settings to achieve the effects sought by directors
  • Adjusts positions and controls of cameras to change focus, exposure, and lighting as requested by the director
  • Confers with directors, producers, talent and other crew members to discuss sequences, desired effects, camera movements, and lighting requirements
  • Prepare cameras, set pieces, microphones, and related equipment prior to broadcast 
  • Tests, cleans, and maintains studio and control room equipment
  • Operates audio board for live and recorded broadcasts
  • Produces graphics for broadcasts

Managing Editor

The Managing Editor assists in helping to run the day-to-day operations of the newsroom on evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 
• Manage, coach and schedule news staff
• Work with news management to decide daily stories and help to arrange and coordinate news content.
• Generate news stories and execute news coverage by coordinating field crews
• Assist the assistant news director to manage all aspects of the News Department

Weekend Anchor / Reporter

WCIA 3 is looking for an experienced, energetic, engaging anchor for our weekend newscasts. This position will also serve as a lead reporter during scheduled weekdays. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on anchor who collaborates with producers, reporters, videographers and others about local newscast content. You should also be a strong enterprise reporter who excels at live shots, generates exclusive stories and is active on social media and digital platforms.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

Reporting to the Director of Sales, our Multi-Media Sales Manager drives revenue growth at WCIA 3, WCIX 49 and wcia.com in Champaign, Illinois as a mentor, coach, collaborator, and activator. You will be an expert on local advertising; digital, linear, and cross platform sales, have a solid understanding of the local media marketplace, and know what it takes to inspire, motivate, and incentivize a successful team. You will be knowledgeable about how to effectively package and price local digital, 3rd party digital media and linear assets together for client success. You will display a track record of recruiting and retaining top sales talent supporting an overall culture of excellence.

This role will work on building a loyal local audience by being responsive to traffic patterns and audience interest while serving as a steward of our brands.

Digital News Producer

WCIA.com is looking for a full-time digital content producer to join our energetic and aggressive team. The Digital Producer leads the transition from broadcast focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms through active daily example; providing training in methods, processes and tactics; as well as in creating/editing original content beyond that which is produced for on-air.

Multimedia Journalist / Reporter
