This past weekend brought a rare tornado outbreak to Illinois which impacted Central Illinois greatly. There were overall 28 tornadoes confirmed after the National Weather Services survey, with the worst scenes coming out of Taylorville. That particular tornado was one of multiple warnings that supercell thunderstorm prompted all the way up to northern McLean County.
The NWS survey was completed in Taylorville and peak winds were estimated to be around 155 MPH which puts it in the range of a EF-3 tornado. 406 homes were destroyed in Taylorville, with 34 of those completely destroyed. The good news in all of this however, is that no lives were lost.
