Former school superintendent resigns from supervisor position

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Former superintendent of District 116 schools, Don Owen, submitted a resignation letter to the district Tuesday.

Don Owen was removed from his position as superintendent last year, and placed into a teaching position within the district.

His resignation is effective Friday.

In his letter, Owen states the primary reason for his resignation relates to “the actions of the Board of Education related to its treatment of Black and Brown students, families, teachers, administrators, and educational support staff.”

The school district sent us a statement in response to Owens resignation, that states “Urbana School District #116 would like to wish Dr. Don Owen the absolute best on his future endeavors.
