What’s Happening: Small Press Fest

The Morning Show

Date and Time of Your Event (If Applicable):
April 13th, 10-2. Independent Media Center, Urbana.

The Small Press Fest is a new event to celebrate small press publications and self-published authors and showcase DIY media. The Library hopes the event will develop the community of zine, comix, and other self-published authors in the area, and empower others to create their own work.

1: Small Press Fest is inclusive of zines, comix, and other kids of self- or small publishing. Will be a variety of content represented at the Fest.
2: Opportunity to hear from artists – there will be a talk by Anthony Rayson and Books to Prisoners at 10:30, a panel discussion at 11:00 featuring a visiting artist from New York, and artist lightning talks at 1.
3: Events leading up to the Fest include two collection tours by the Ricker Art and Architecture Library highlighting artist books and zines, and the Undergraduate Library/International and Area Studies Library highlighting graphic novels and international collections, as well as a risograph printing workshop by the School of Art and Design.
4: Plan to continue developing self-authorship activities after the Fest and to make this an annual activity.
5. Will have a designated kid friendly area as well as a kids activity.
