WHAT: Let’s go Heartwalking! The Champaign-Urban Heart Walk is a celebration of a community taking a stand against heart disease and stroke while making a commitment to be Healthy for Good. Walk with your family, friends and coworkers, and become inspired to Heartwalk all year long.
As a signature fundraising event, the Champaign-Urbana Heart Walk is made up of organizations and individuals who build teams to raise money to support the American Heart Association and American Association’s mission of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
Participants will enjoy heart health information, kids’ activities, heart healthy snacks, etc. Plus the walk of course!
WHEN: Sunday, September 16, 2018
3:00 pm – Registration opens and vendor booths open
3:30 pm – Opening remarks/stage program
4:00 pm – Walk Starts
WHERE: Porter Park, 2310 S. Rising Road, Champaign IL 61822
WHY: Did you know:
* About two in three American adults and one in three American children are overweight or obese – and this number continues to grow.
* Only about 22% of American adults meet the federal physical activity recommendations for aerobic and strengthening activity.
* About one in three adults participates in NO leisure time physical activity at all.
Staying active is one of the best ways to stay healthy, look and feel better, and live longer. Getting at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week can lower your risk of heart disease and stroke, help you manage stress and sleep better, and improve overall health and wellbeing.
The Champaign Heart Walk is sponsored by Carle – Life is Why, OSF, Busey and U of I. The 2019 Heart Walk chairpersons are Sam and Becky Preston.
