The Animarvels Expo

The Morning Show

Saturday June 1st, 1pm-6pm West Side Park Champaign

Why is this segment timely and/or important to viewers?

The Animarvels Expo is a fun family event for people and animals.

Please share four talking points or subjects you would like included in the interview. (NOTE: These should be “big picture” points that give context to the interview).

1: The purpose of the event is to encourage interaction with animals for emotional wellness and suicide prevention. “Animarvels” recognizes that animals are superheroes and have the power to make us feel happy, loved, and needed. The idea for the event came from people with experience with mental illness or suicide sharing stories about how their pets saved them.

2: The event will include food, music, and vendors and exhibitors. There will be play areas for dogs and cats, animal contests, and an animal parade. Depending on weather, there may be animals available for adoption.

3: Proceeds from the event support our suicide prevention programs, including activities at schools to de-stigmatize suicide and mental illness and to encourage help-seeking.

4: We will also be hosting a public suicide intervention training on Thursday May 23rd, 6pm-8:30pm at the Urbana Library Lewis Auditorium.
