The Farm Progress Show is only 89 days away, and host farmer David Brix has short season corn in and growing…

David Brix

We got it planted two weeks ago tomorrow.

Stu Ellis

How did you compensate to make sure you have corn to harvest by the end of August?

David Brix

Originally, we were shooting for 94 day corn and that’s plenty early. But this year we actually went down to 86 day so; we’re crossing our fingers and hoping Mother Nature and GDU’s stack up and it will be ready to go.

Stu Ellis

Now you, everybody’s had a lot of rain, you’ve had a lot of rain and we look at, we’re watching rain possibly come in here in the background. What’s been your precipitation amount?

David Brix

We’ve had a lot of consistent rains. We’ve never had, I guess I should knock on wood, we’ve never had that gully washer yet, so that’s been good. We haven’t really had ponds, but we’ve had a lot of quarter, half inch, one inch rains and nothing much bigger than that.

Stu Ellis

There is a lot to do in the 89 days remaining before the show….

David Brix

We are so far behind the eight ball with the calendar saying June first, They take over the show site in about a month and tents and stuff like that starts going up which is right around the corner, and we’re not even close to ready. Mother Nature needs to turn around; start giving us some better weather, and we can get everything moving and get this show ready for.

Stu Ellis

A Brazilian company arrived at the show site yesterday to prepare its exhibit. I will introduce you to them next Thursday. We’re on the Road to Farm Progress. I’m Stu Ellis With WCIA 3 your local news leader.
