ISSUE TO ADDRESS: Volunteers needed to help the overwhelming number of Social services clients, especially in our pantry.
QUESTIONS (for the interviewer to ask the agency representative, please include answers as well):
What is The Salvation Army’s most pressing volunteer need?
Right now we are being overwhelmed by the number of families needing help through our Food and Household help pantry. On a daily basis we are serving over 50 families a day. So that means our Pantry Supervisor serve a different family ever seven minutes, none stop, Monday through Friday.
How would someone apply?
We have an application process that can be filled out in our office the day they come in. For people who what to help out more than once, we have a background checking system and there are some basic restrictions (lifting, standing long periods, needing to be sitting). Most volunteers who submit an application can be schedule the very next day.
What would the volunteers be doing?
First they get a simple walk through and basic training on the system that we work with. Then they would be helping to put together grocery and household orders for each family. Helping to stock the shelves, rotating the inventory, minor cleaning.
DATE AND TIME OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Ongoing, Monday thru Friday, 9AM-4PM
