Cunningham Children’s Home stops by the Morning Show for this week’s Giving Back and is discussing their upcoming Festival of Quilts.

Sharla Jolly, Director of Advancement for Cunningham Children’s Home and Bobby Walker, Volunteer Church Outreach for Festival of Quilts lead the discussion.

Festival of Quilts Friday and Saturday, April 7th and 8th, 2017, 9:00am – 5:00 pm
Children come to Cunningham from a lot of different referring agencies:
Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Human Services, Department of Justice, Referrals from the School Districts and Individual Care Grant
At the HopeSprings Counseling Services youth and families are referred to us from our community partners.
The children at Cunningham are youth who suffer from serious emotional and behavioral (disabilities) challenges, born out of repeated traumas like abuse and neglect, they have experienced in their young lives. Before some of our kids get to Cunningham, they have been in as many as seven different placements.
Cunningham provided care to about 350 children last year. 63% are boys- most kids are between ages of 10-17. 85% of them come from East Central Illinois and most are wards of the state.

What is a typical Festival of Quilts volunteer experience like? It varies according to your volunteers duties, however it’s a great way to interact with the community and it’s also a great way to give back to a wonderful organization. It’s just FUN!
What is new with your Education and Recreation Center project? We are half way to our financial goals; however we still need the community support.
