Giving Back: Crisis Nursery Annual Dinner

The Morning Show

Renae Kirkton, Special Events Coordinator & Jill Duden, Safe Children Program Director with Crisis Nursery join the Morning Show to discuss some upcoming fundraisers.

Crisis Nursery works to prevent child abuse and neglect in Champaign County by providing 24-hour emergency care for children and support to strengthen families in crisis. Volunteers are critical to the Nursery’s success. At any given time during the day, at least 50% of the people caring for the children at the Nursery are volunteers. Because of the upcoming summer months, many of our student volunteers will be going home, and unavailable to help us. Visit our website: crisisnursery.net and click on the volunteer tab to get more information.

Our largest fundraiser of the year is happening June 2nd. It is our 24th annual silent auction and dinner at the ihotel. We’re needing help the day of the event with tasks such as loading baskets for delivery to the hotel, and setting up for the event.

Crisis Nursery is a 24 hour facility that provides emergency child care for families who are in a crisis situation. We care for children birth – 6 in our Safe Children Program. We also provide further assistance for parents through our Strong Families program in which parents can attend support groups, parent – child play groups, and receive home visits from our social workers.

Many of our student volunteers are leaving us for the summer months, so we’re needing volunteers to help with direct child care tasks such as rocking babies, fixing lunches, mopping floors, sorting laundry, etc…. We ask these volunteers to commit to a 2 hour weekly shift for a minimum of 6 months. Must be 18 or older, visit cuvolunteer.org or crisisnursery.net to receive more information.

Crisis Nursery will be hosting it’s 24th annual dinner and auction on Friday June 2nd at the IHotel Conference Center. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Please visit crisisnursery.net for more information on getting tickets for the event.

How can someone help at the upcoming auction and dinner? We need help the day of the event sorting and delivering silent auction basket to the conference center. We could also use help at the event for setting up and getting things ready. Visit cuvolunteer.org or crisisnursery.net for more information.
