Gift of Life Blood Drive

The Morning Show
This morning former representative Naomi Jakobsson and Reverend Keith Harris join us to talk about the WCIA annual blood drive.

Rev. Keith Harris is the Associate Pastor at McKinley Presbyterian Church.  Keith is a cancer survivor, blood recipient, and Blood Drive Coordinator for Presby Hall. Since people fighting cancer is the #1 use of our blood product, blood donation is important to those who have been touched by this disease.

Naomi Jakobsson: I grew up knowing little about giving blood except that I knew my father gave blood. At the time, to a child, it seemed quite a heroic thing to do. I didn’t even know where the blood center was. I just knew it was something that my father, whom I adored, did often. I guess that had an impact on my decision later to become I donor.  The first time I donated was at my work place back in the late 80’s or early 90’s.  At first I donated sporadically and now I am a pretty regular donor. I do know that I have donated approximately 12 gallons of blood.  Since 1 pint can save up to 3 lives, that means I have potentially saved at least 237 lives in the times I have donated in this area. It’s such an easy way to make an important gift to someone.
