Friday Flicks: The Fate of the Furious & T2 Trainspotting

The Morning Show

Film critic Chuck Koplinski stops by the Morning Show for this week’s Friday Flicks and this weekend another fast-and furious film and a follow up to a cult-classic on area screens.

The Fate of the Furious (Starts Friday) When a mysterious woman (Charlize Theron) seduces Dom (Vin Diesel) into the world of crime and a betrayal of those closest to him, the crew face trials that will test them as never before.  Reveling in the ridiculous nature of its story and stunts, director F. Gary Gray manages to bring a sense of fun back to the franchise.  Though overly long and woefully obvious, this is a feature fans of the series will embrace. 2 ½ Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated PG-13. 136 minutes. AMC, CAR, HAR, SAV.

T2 Trainspotting (Starts Friday) After 20 years abroad, Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to Scotland and reunites with his old friends Sick Boy, Spud, and Begbie (Johnny Lee Miller, Ewan Bremner & Robert Carlyle).  While time has passed, the behavior of this quartet hasn’t as they find themselves slaves to their own worst angels yet again.  While there’s no way director Danny Boyle could recreate the magic of his 1996 classic, this worthy follow-up concedes this and is content to further explore the hazards of addiction.  3 ½  Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated R. 117 minutes. ART.
