Friday Flicks: The Comedian & A Dog’s Purpose

The Morning Show

Film critic Chuck Koplinski stops by the Morning Show for this week’s Friday Flicks and he’s breaking down two new movies hitting area screens this weekend, The Comedian and A Dog’s Purpose.

The Comedian (Starts Friday) Robert De Niro stars as Jackie Burke, a long time stand-up comedian who’s refused to change with the times and finds that his PC act doesn’t play like it used to.  He meets a vivacious woman (an excellent Leslie Mann) who’s just as hard-edged as he is and forces him to come to terms with modern times.  3 1/2 Stars
A Dog’s Purpose. A dog looks to discover his purpose in life over the course of several lifetimes and owners.  If good intentions were all that was required to make a quality film, than this feature from director Lasse Hallstrom would be considered a classic. However, the pace is a bit limp and the sentiments are too sappy to take seriously. Rest assured, dog lovers will embrace this one.  2 Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated PG. 120 minutes. AMC, CAR, SAV.
