A monster sequel and a rock and roll biography premiere on area screens this week. Here to tell us about “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” and “Rocketman” are film critics Pam Powell and Chuck Koplinski.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (Starts Friday) The crypto-zoological agency Monarch faces off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. At times rousing, the monster action is often obscured and muddled while this overlong feature is bogged down with bland characters and their problems. An okay monster mash that left me wanting more. 2 ½ Stars (Chuck Koplinski) Rated PG-13. 131 minutes. AMC-C, AMC-D, HAR, SAV.
Rocketman (Starts Friday) A musical fantasy about the fantastical human story of Elton John’s (Taron Egerton) breakthrough years. Rated R. 121 minutes. AMC-C, AMC-D, SAV.
