CHAMPAIGN—

Bicentennial Celebrations

As Illinois continues to celebrate its 200 years, there are several local events happening to celebrate the occasion.

* The state will hold Doors Open Illinois each weekend throughout August. This weekend, they’ll be focusing on attractions in Southern Illinois. Our community will be featured the second weekend of August, the 11-12. Doors Open Illinois gives visitors access to over 80 attractions around the state with special hours and no admission. In our community, Krannert Art Museum, Spurlock Museum, Museum of the Grand Prairie, and the Champaign County History Museum will have extended hours August 11–12. This is an opportunity to get into these museums on and off campus before the students return. The following weekend will showcase attractions along the Great River Road, while the final weekend will be in the Chicago area.

* On that final weekend, seven locations across the state will celebrate the adaption of the Illinois Constitution with a birthday celebration. You can join us on Sunday, August 26, from 1-5 pm at the Champaign County History Museum. We’ll be serving up 200 slices of Eli’s Cheesecake, made special for the bicentennial, alongside special events planned by the Museum!
