David Shiley from the U of I extension office joins the Morning Show and in this weeks Ag Answers, he is discussing Fall preparation for Spring windbreak planting.
This includes location of the rows of trees, spacing and species selection
Species: Norway spruce, white pine, arborvitae(Northern white cedar) and white fir
Fall site preparation is important for a successful spring tree planting. There’s increased survival of seedling sized trees, faster growth during establishment years.
Fall site preparation is accomplished through tillage or mechanical removal of vegetation in the row or chemical removal using a nonselective herbicide
