A Record Number of Dunkin’s are Participating, as the Campaign Aims to Surpass Last Year’s Total of $871,000

CHICAGO – The 17th annual “Cop on a Rooftop” event will take place Friday, May 17, from 5 a.m. until noon at 316 Illinois Dunkin’ locations.  Law enforcement officials will be stationed on rooftops at participating Dunkin’ locations across the state of Illinois, collecting money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Illinois.  Special Olympics athletes and their families, plus mascots from the Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs and White Sox are among the special guests who will join law enforcement officials to show their support.

Event organizers are aiming to surpass last year’s grand total of $871,000.  Since 2003, the event has raised more than $4.8 million total dollars for Special Olympics Illinois.  Of note, 316 participating Dunkin’ stores is a record for the annual fundraiser.  For a full list of participating Chicagoland locations, please visit: coponarooftop.com/Illinois.pdf.

In support of the Special Olympics athletes and law enforcement personnel, Dunkin’ will donate $15,000.   Additionally, in honor of the campaign, “The Champion”– a special glazed red-and-white donut depicting Special Olympics Illinois colors – will be available on the day of the event at participating Dunkin’s.

Four other states – Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio – will also organize Cop on a Rooftop events to raise money for their respective Special Olympic chapters.  Later in the year, five additional states (Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin) will host their own Cop on a Rooftop events.
