Parkland softball “feeling the pressure”

CHAMPAIGN — The Parkland College softball knows all about the school’s success in other sports.  Five Cobra teams have already made it to their respective national tournaments this school year.  Volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, along with both basketball teams all were among the nation’s best teams in 2016-17.  The softball team would like to add its name to that list as well and keep the streak going.

“There’s a little bit of pressure considering us and baseball and golf are the only ones that haven’t gone to nationals this year so there’s quite a bit of pressure but I feel that all the teams that haven’t gone yet have a great chance of making it,” Parkland sophomore outfielder Megan Magsamen said.

Longtime Parkland head coach Chuck Clutts knows his experienced group has a good chance to do just that.  The Cobras are 15-3 and ranked 6th in the latest NJCAA D-II poll.

“I challenged the team at the beginning of the season because I knew what kind of team we had and I said guys, we’re only going to talk about it once,” Clutts said.  “You guys have a great opportunity to go to nationals.  We have the make-up for it and it’s up to you guys to do the job.”
