PEORIA — Chicago Orr jumped out to a 24-13 first quarter lead and never looked back, beating Monticello 62-44 Friday night in the Class 2A state semifinals at Carver Arena.
“You know they shot the ball extremely well from the 3-point line and that’s the one thing that we were willing to give up early and they buried those in the first quarter and that created a deficit right off the bat and we had to fight to compete and scrape to try and get back into it,” Monticello head coach Kevin Roy said.
Isiah Florey scored a game-high 19 points, Calvin Fisher added 12 but it wasn’t enough. The Sages will now play Kankakee Bishop McNamara in the third place game on Saturday.
“We’ve just got to keep our heads up and got to focus on Bishop Mac and give it our best tomorrow,” Monticello junior Johnny Dawson said.
