CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Parkland College sophomore pitcher Luke Smith is teaming up with his childhood friend to play college baseball. The Centennial grad verbally committed to play for Louisville next season, joining his longtime friend Jake Snider, who is on the Cardinals’ roster. Jake’s dad, Eric, is a Louisville assistant coach and the team’s recruiting coordinator. He was an assistant at Illinois previously

“It’s definitely incredible knowing Coach Snider and Jake from Illinois,” Smith said. “Jake and I grew up together so it’s pretty exciting to get to play with one of my boys again. Coach Snyder has done a lot for me over the years so getting to play at a program of that magnitude is something I’m really looking forward to.”

Smith is one of six Division I recruits on the Parkland roster. Josh Garner and Garrett Acton will play for Illinois next year. Jared Olson will play at Michigan State, while Jack Lambert and Evan Snyder plan to team up together at Western Kentucky.
