Parkland baseball set to honor military

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — The Parkland baseball team is set to honor our nation’s military members this weekend, while trying to raise awareness for a good cause. The Cobras are teaming up with Mission 22, a non-profit organization trying to end veteran suicide and raise awareness for PTSD.

“I just wanted the guys to make sure there’s a protocol,” Parkland head coach Dave Garcia said. “You always need to pay to your troops and kind of have an understanding of not only what they’re going through as soon as they come back, but that there’s long-standing effects.”

“I hope we get more people to support Mission 22 and what they’re doing for all the veterans that come back,” Parkland freshman Damian Pierce said. “Anything we can do to help the community or anything anyone can take from us doing this will be really helpful.”

The ceremony will take place in between the first and second games of the doubleheader on May 5th. For more information about the event, contact Cobras head coach Dave Garcia at
