CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — The Parkland College baseball team is right where it wanted to be at the beginning of the season; heading to Enid, Oklahoma for the NJCAA D-II World Series. This time around, though, the Cobras are expecting a better result. After losing both of its games at the national tournament last season, Parkland returns a year later with a different mindset. The Cobras won the Region 24 tournament on Monday afternoon to advance.
“The goal all year has been to get back there and prove something and when we showed up to the park yesterday, we talked about how we’re deserving of it but we had to take it, it wasn’t going to be given to us,” Parkland sophomore Cole Hamilton said.
“With the expectations we have here at Parkland, we’re trying to go to the World Series every year,” Parkland coach Dave Garcia said. “So these guys set that goal back in August and to see them fulfill that yesterday was a great accomplishment.”
Parkland is the second seed and plays its first game on Sunday.
