BOURBONNAIS (WCIA) — The Chicago Bears have arrived at training camp in Bourbonnais, minus one key player. First round draft pick Roquan Smith was a no show on Thursday as the rookie linebacker from Georgia negotiates his contract.
First-year head coach Matt Nagy isn’t waiting on Smith, he’s full steam ahead as the Bears open practice for the first time on Friday.
“It’s exciting as an organization, as players, as coaches, to be together for the first time,” Nagy said. “For me, I look at it almost like a piece of clay for our team. And not our offense, not our defense, not our special teams but our team in general and we get to create our own identity.”
The first public practice is Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m. The Bears are coming off a 5-11 season, the seventh-straight year the team missed the playoffs.
