CHAMPAIGN — Illinois running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn is transferring after just two seasons with the Illini. The Nashville, Tenn. native and former 4-star recruit announced his intentions to leave the team on his Twitter page.
“After much thought, consideration and discussing this with my family, I have decided to explore different avenues to obtain my bachelors and athletic endeavors,” Vaughn posted on the social media site. “I want to take a moment to express my appreciation to the University of Illinois and the coaching staff for the opportunity to not only gain experience academically but as an athlete as well. Will forever love the #IlliniNation.”
Vaughn led Illinois in carries, rushing yards and touchdowns as a freshman. He was the clear cut starter coming into fall camp this past season, even invited to Big Ten Media Days in Chicago, but lost his starting spot after the Western Michigan game.
