SAUGET — The Illinois baseball team hit three home runs, including two from freshman Michael Massey, to beat Missouri 5-3 Tuesday night in the annual Braggin’ Rights game at GCS Ballpark.
“Coming into tonight, I was struggling so I just tried to keep it simple tonight,” Massey said. “See ball, hit ball and kind of tried to little league it a little bit and it worked out.”
“From a hitting standpoint, the top of the order was outstanding,” Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb said. “We scuffled a little bit at the bottom but that’s part of baseball. It happens at times and we found a way to win so a good day at the ballpark.”
It’s the fourth straight victory for Illinois, who improves to 10-16 on the season. The Illini will visit nationally ranked Michigan this weekend.
