“We’re just ready to go”

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — The Illinois men’s golf team has been in this position before.  The Illini are hoping for a different result this time around though.  The team leaves for the NCAA Championships on Wednesday, the 10th-straight season the program has made it to Nationals, the second longest active streak in the country.

“Everyone is excited for sure,” Illinois junior Nick Hardy said.  “It’s a lot of anticipation, we’ve had a week to prepare and we’re just ready to go, we’re itching to go.”

The Illini have been close to winning it all several times, playing in the Final Four last season.  They placed runner-up back in 2013 but still haven’t been able to win the school’s first national golf championship.  After their come-from-behind performance to qualify on the final day at the West Lafayette Regional, the Illini say they’re ready to go.

“We’ve been through a lot the last couple of weeks with Dylan being sick and we’ve faced a lot,” Illinois freshman Michael Feagles said.  “We had our backs against the wall at regionals and we were able to pull it off so I think this team is uniting together at the right time and we’re going to be ready to play.”

The NCAA Championships run May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove.
