CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Illinois men’s basketball coach Brad Underwood’s roster looks a lot different heading into Year 2 with the Illini. Eight newcomers will suit up for the first time Friday night when the team takes the court for the first time against Illinois Wesleyan in the Illini’s lone public exhibition.
“I think collectively as a group, we’re deeper,” Underwood said. “I feel very comfortable with our perimeter play, I think we’ll be a better shooting team at every spot than we were last year. Now we’ve got to go out and prove that when the bright lights are on.”
Illinois opens the season on Nov. 8 against Evansville at State Farm Center. Only four scholarship players return for a team coming off a 14-18 campaign in Underwood’s first season in Champaign. The four Big Ten wins were the fewest in a season since 1998-99.
