WCIA — The top Illinois basketball recruiting target in the Class of 2019 is heading to Kentucky. Kahlil Whitney announced on his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon that he will play for the Wildcats next season.
The 5-star small forward is a consensus Top 20 player nationally and originally hails from Chicago. Whitney narrowed his list to Illinois, Georgetown, Kentucky and Oregon earlier this week but coming off a weekend official visit to Lexington, the momentum was with the Cats.
The focus for the Illini now shifts to reigning Illinois Mr. Basketball winner E.J. Liddell. The Belleville West product tweeted on Monday that he’ll be releasing a Top 5 list soon. Quincy Guerrier released his Top 10 list on Tuesday, which included Illinois. Guerrier is a 4-star small forward out of Canada who stands 6-foot-7 and is ranked the 46th player nationally in the Class of 2019.
