SILVIS (WCIA) — Former Illinois golfer Steve Stricker is playing to win his record fourth John Deere Classic title this week, he’s also trying to qualify for The Open Championship. The 51-year old has been splitting his time between the Champions Tour and PGA Tour this year, and does not have status for golf’s third major next week at Carnoustie.
“I’m very close to playing well out on the regular tour. It seems like one round each week that I’ve played on the regular tour that’s bit me in the butt and it’s cost me from having some really, really good tournaments.”
Stricker’s first round tees off at 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Former Illini D.A. Points will go off 20 minutes before at 7:40, while fellow alums Nick Hardy (9 a.m.) and Dylan Meyer (2:10 p.m.) also in the field.
