SPRINGFIELD (WCIA) — Four former Illinois golfers are in the field at this week’s Lincoln Land Championship at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield. WCIA 3’s Craig Choate caught up with Scott Langley at the range on Monday. The recent Illinois Hall of Fame inductee is currently second on the Web.com Tour money list, with the Top 25 players earning their PGA Tour card at the end of the season. The first round of this week’s tournament tees off Thursday morning.
“Playing pretty well this year. What’s been the key to your success?”
“It’s been a great year for sure. I worked really hard this last offseason and made some important changes to my game. I really got back to what has always made me a great player in college and amateur golf growing up. It’s been nice to have some good results. I’m really excited to come back here to Springfield. It’s kind of the closest thing I have to a home game.”
“You’re sitting at No. 2 in the 25 heading into this week. Does that add any pressure?”
“No I don’t really feel any pressure. Pressure was last year when I was 73rd going into the last regular season event and the Top 75 make it to the finals and keep their Web status. That was pressure. This is a different deal for sure. I’m obviously chasing the No. 1 spot. That has a lot of perks associated with it and I would love to be there. I’m in a great spot and having my card locked up for next season on the PGA Tour is exciting.”
“What do you want to see from yourself this week?”
“I would just like to see myself play a little more consistently than I did last week. In Witchita I kind of made too many sloppy mistakes and that comes down to a little bit of strategy, and a little bit of just polishing up my short game a little bit. I love this course. I had a good chance to win here last year on Sunday and didn’t quite get it done. But I have good memories here. I’d love to just kind of put myself in a good spot on Sunday and see if I could have a chance to win. That’d obviously be really fun and that’s the goal every week.”
