Returning players say newcomers have “bought in” to culture

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A focus for Brad Underwood in the offseason was adding player that have won in the past. He did so with the eight newcomers on the team this season.

Fans got a chance to see the new team at an open practice at Ubben on Saturday. It was their first look at the eight newcomers on the court.

“Returning guys, you know, have been through a lot. They’ve seen a lot. But then the new guys they’re experiencing something new,” senior Aaron Jordan said. “So we have to hone in on that and say ‘Hey, this is where Illinois basketball wants to be’ and we have the talent, we have the guys in this locker room right now that can get us there.”

“They bought in tremendously. They picked up a lot of things really quick,” sophomore Trent Frazier said. “They come in ready to work every day and they’re very competitive.”
