“Recruiting is an everyday challenge”

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — A change in a coaching staff usually means one thing: a new look roster. New philosophies, a new system, a new culture and a new way of doing things. It happens with every team and the makeover is well on its way with the Illinois men’s basketball team. The Illini have two open scholarships for next season, as of now. Morgan Park 5-star guard Ayo Dosunmu is the only played set to join the team next year but more are expected.

Illinois head coach Brad Underwood and his staff spent the last five days out on the road, recruiting not only 2018 prospects but 2019 and even 2020 as well. Underwood spent time in Los Angeles, California visiting with Tevian Jones, a 4-star forward from Culver City.

“I know Champaign to LA and back in one day isn’t something that I would highly recommend for those of you vacationing but there’s a lot of players out there,” Underwood said when asked about recruiting. “There’s a lot of players that we’ve identified and continued to identify and recruiting is an everyday challenge and it’s what we talk about every single day.”
