Opening Night: Illini volleyball set to open up play in NCAA’s

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Opening night of the NCAA tournament is here for the Illinois volleyball team. The No. 3 seeded Illini host Eastern Michigan in the first round at 7 p.m. in Huff Hall.

“I trust this group a lot,” Illinois head coach Chris Tamas said. “They’ve played as a team throughout the whole year and I think for us it’s just about coming out and showing everyone what we can do.”

“Having the discipline to think about one point at a time is what’s eventually going to lead to that long-term goal,” Illinois outside hitter Jacqueline Quade said. “So the long-term goals never go away but I think we know that one point at a time is probably the most important part of actually realistically going out and achieving those goals.”

The Illini will face the winner of the first match Friday night between Louisville and Dayton. The second round will be played Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Huff Hall.
