Lovie: “Our players are better”

Illini

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Illinois Football finished last in the Big Ten in 2017 going winless in conference play.
With a home schedule that includes games against Kent State and Western Illinois, there’s a chance the Illini could get off to a solid start
Head coach Lovie Smith won’t give a number on how many wins he’s expecting in the year ahead, but he did say he’s optimistic about the growth his team has made.

“We just want to see improvement, which we will,” Smith said. “Our players are better. That should lead to more improved play, better play on the football field. We want to win all of our games. We can’t wait to get to training camp and see exactly what this football team looks like and then I can have a little bit better idea of how it’ll play out.”

Fall Camp is open to the public Aug. 3-18. Friday’s practice is set for 3 p.m.
