Kendziera unfazed on big stage

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — The U.S. Track and Field Outdoor Championships runs June 21-24.

A trio of current and former Illinois Athletes will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete at Drake Stadium. Among them, hurdler David Kendziera.

The recent Illinois graduate is coming off a third and second-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He will race in the 400-meter hurdles Thursday and the 110-metter on Saturday.

The now 10X All-American only ran last year’s 400-meters and did not qualify for the finals.

Making his third trip to the Championships, Kendziera said he’s more comfortable on the track than he ever has been.

“It definitely makes an event a lot more easy in terms of my confidence,” Kendziera said. “I feel very comfortable there. I feel like I’m supposed to be there. It just makes it a real easy meet, just another meet whether it be at a home meet or going to Carbondale, or going anywhere.”

The U.S. Championships will air Saturday, June 23 from 3-5 p.m. on NBC.
