Illinois beats DePaul in historic game

CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Illinois freshman Mark Smith scored a game and career high 21 points, Kipper Nichols added 16 points and the Illini beat DePaul 82-73 in the first game between the two in-state schools in 60 years.

“They helped a lot, making shots and making plays,” Illinois junior guard Aaron Jordan said. “Doing what they’re able to do, they had a great week of practice and it showed up tonight.”

It’s a quick turnaround for the Illini (3-0) who are back at State Farm Center Sunday afternoon hosting Marshall at 4 p.m.
