CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Winning a Big Ten road match is always difficult but doing it against a Top 10 team is something that hasn’t happened a lot over the years for the Illinois volleyball team. The Illini did just that over the weekend, taking down No. 8 Wisconsin on its home floor, including a 35-33 third set thriller. It’s a building block moment for the team, as they improve to 5-3 in the conference.
“We needed that win as a team and it’s a pretty tough stretch in the Big Ten for us and coming up with a big win like that on the road is really awesome for us,” Illinois junior outside hitter Jacqueline Quade said.
“Any Big Ten win is a good one but it makes it especially sweeter when we get Wisconsin at Wisconsin,” Illinois head coach Chris Tamas said. “We had them here 10 days previous and that’s the quickest turnaround you get to try and work on a team.”
Illinois returns home this weekend hosting No. 13 Michigan on Friday night before Michigan State visits on Saturday night, both matches start at 7 p.m.
