CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Less than one week before their first game, the Illini volleyball team put on a show for their fans at their annual orange and blue scrimmage on Saturday.

It’s the final season for the duo of Ali Bastianelli and Jordyn Poulter. The two have lead Illinois to two Sweet 16 berths in both of their appearances in the NCAA tournament. Each was named to the preseason All-Big Ten team earlier this week, Poulter was a unanimous selections. Both want to end their Illini career with a special season.

“Obviously there’s a lot of emotion behind this season but I think with the team we have and the coaches and staff and everyone it’s going to be a really special year and I’m really looking forward to going out with a bang,” Bastianelli said.

“It’s kind of sad. I’m graduating in December and just walking around being in the gym it’s kind of counting of the moments because it’s not going to last forever,” Poulter added. “It’s kind of sad but we’re excited for this last season.”

Illinois opens their season August 14th at the Colorado State Tournament against UNC-Wilmington.
