CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Illinois Football has the coach in Lovie Smith, and his first recruiting class is finally on campus. So, the only thing left is the program’s facilities.
The university unveiled plans for the new Illinois Performance Center on Friday. It’s all included in the first phase of renovations in a multi-level addition to the Irwin Indoor Practice Facility.
The plans include new weight, locker, training, and equipment rooms, as well as coaches’ offices. The more than 100,000-square-foot addition is expected to cost $79.2 million.
Construction is scheduled to being in early 2018 and finish before the start of the 2019 season. The second phase, which includes renovations to Memorial Stadium, will begin after the new facility is complete.
