Illini softball cracks top-25 for first time since 2011

URBANA — For the first time since 2011, you can find Illinois in the top 25 of the NCAA softball rankings.

Illinois sits at 31-10 on the season and have won seven games in a row and 19 of their last 22.

“We follow them, more RPI than the rankings. RPI is kind of our goal the way that we schedule, we’re scheduling to hopefully put ourselves in a position for a great RPI,” head coach Tyra Perry explained. “So more RPI than rankings.”

“We care in a way where it just hypes us up,” senior Ruby Rivera added. “We don’t really care like, oh yeah that’s all we care about. We’re just maintaining, we’re not doing anything too much or too little, we’re still out here doing our best and bringing it everyday.”

Illinois host Butler at Eichelberger Field on Wednesday at 5:00.
