Illini men’s and women’s tennis make NCAA tournament

Illini

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois men’s tennis has made the NCAA tournament every year since 1996. 2019 is no different as the Illini are the 15-seed. Illinois women’s tennis also made the field of 64.

The men are hosting for the 18th time in the last 24 years. They face Western Michigan in the first round. California and Drake are the other two teams in the region.

“You work so hard all year long, and you’ve got all these lofty goals and we want to win titles and Big Ten titles, we didn’t do that this year but one of the goals at the beginning of the season is to always put ourselves in a hosting position for the NCAA Championships as well,” head coach Brad Dancer said. “So I’m proud of the team for their work, their effort and they deserve it.”

The women are in the Duke region. The Blue Devils will face James Madison. The Illini draw Arizona State in the first round.
