CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — It’s finally game week for the Illinois football team. The Illini wrapped up their four-week training camp last week and are now fully preparing for their first opponent, Ball State.
“Looking forward to it,” Illinois head coach Lovie Smith said. “We really are excited about the football season, excited about starting the season out here. We’re going to put a good product on the football field eventually. Going to play a lot of young players and with a lot of young players, that can be a good thing.”
“A year in the system changes a lot,” Illinois junior quarterback Chayce Crouch said. “Now I feel like a lot of us really understand what we’re doing and before it was kind of learning on the run and trying to absorb as much as we could and memorizing and then going out on the field and do it.”
Illinois hosts Ball State Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Memorial Stadium.
