CHICAGO (WCIA) — Former Illinois football standout Dana Howard took part in Big Ten Media Days on Tuesday, signing autographs for fans and appearing at the annual Kickoff Luncheon. Howard is part of the 2018 College Football Hall of Fame and Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame classes.

“It’s cool man just to come back and represent the university and myself as well,” Howard said. “I’m happy to be in the College Football Hall of Fame, as well as the University of Illinois Hall of Fame so it’s really cool.”

Howard keeps close tabs on the Illini and tries to get back to campus a few times per year. He plans to see head coach Lovie Smith’s team play Penn State in primetime on Sept. 21.

“I think he’s (Smith) doing a good job,” Howard said. “Recruiting is going to be the hard part but he’s over that hurdle a little bit so to speak and he’s getting guys in who are his caliber of guys, who are Big Ten guys who can go out day to day and make sure we’re either winning the game or close enough to where we need to be.”
