CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — After 14 practices, the Illini are calling it quits for spring ball in 2019. Instead of practicing on the field for practice #15, the team will instead spend the time bowling.
It’s not the first time Lovie has decided to end spring ball early, they also went bowling in 2017 in place of the final practice.
“We’re right where we need to be. It’s hard to get overly impressed in the spring. We’ve seen improvement, we’re a better ball club than when we started,” Smith said. “We feel like we know everybody’s role. Not a lot of major injuries, so all those things have been good.”
Training camp will start in late July or early August.
