Freshmen play major roles for Illini Baseball

Illini

OXFORD, Miss. (WCIA) — There are eight freshman on the Illinois Baseball team, and they;ve played key roles in helping the Illini get to the NCAA Tournament this season.

Champaign-native Kellen Sarver is a redshirt freshman. The Illini first baseman has been a fixture in the lineup in his first season of college baseball, but the highly regarded true freshman class has pulled its weight, and then some.

Tabbed as the best freshman group in school history, ranking 24th in the nation, guys like Jacob Campbell, Branden Comia, and Cam McDonald have played key roles.

“It’s great coming out here and playing in this kind of environment, it’s going to be fun and I’m really excited,” says Sarver. “I feel like our incoming freshmen have made a big impact and I feel like they’re so successful because they don’t let the pressure get to them, they’re calm in any type of situation they put themselves in.”
