Former Illini makes pro debut at U.S. Open

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WCIA) — Former Illinois golfer Dylan Meyer didn’t plan on making his professional debut at one of golf’s four major championships but the Evansville native isn’t complaining about the opportunity. Meyer earned a spot in the U.S. Open after finishing second at the Springfield, Ohio sectional qualifier last week.

“It’s awesome,” Meyer said. “You know I wasn’t expecting to play a major championship as my first event as a professional, so I’m really excited about that and going out there and proving against the best in the world of what I can do and seeing where I stack up against the best in the world.”

Meyer will tee off in the first round Thursday at 7:57 a.m. and is one of two former Illini in the field, joining Steve Stricker.
