CHAMPAIGN — Illinois softball’s Nicole Evans and wrestler Isaiah Martinez are the 2016-17 Dike Eddleman award winners, the top honor for Illini athletes. Evans is the first softball recipient in the history of the award, while Martinez is just the eighth two-time winner, dating back to 1940.
“Dike Eddleman set the example for what all student athletes should strive to emulate,” Evans said in a statement. “I am so humbled and so thankful to my teammates, coaches and this school for this award.”
“It’s a pleasure and honor to represent the University of Illinois,” Martinez said in a statement. “I am grateful for this recognition.”
