CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Nancy Fahey lost her first game in her tenure in Champaign on Sunday, a 24 point loss at Florida Gulf Coast in which the Illini gave up 85 points.
“When you have a team that, Florida Gulf Coast, that could shoot it and they could drive it. You got to pick your poison,” Fahey said. “At times we picked both of them. We’ve got to understand that good teams are going to do that.”
“Definitely physicality. Going up against Marquette, we had a scrimmage against them and then recently we just had our game in Florida, both teams are both really physical and we’ve got to get used to that physicality and set the tempo there,” junior Jaelyne Kirkpatrick said. “And also pushing tempo in transition trying to control the game rather than have them control tempo.”
Illinois hosts Chicago State on Wednesday night.
