CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — With the departure of Leron Black, Michael Finke and Greg Eboigbodin, Illinois Men’s Basketball was in dire need of size and experience.
The Illini found it in graduate transfer Adonis De La Rosa.
The former Kent State big-man averaged 7.6 rebounds and 11.8 points per game last season. He is listed as 7’0″ and 265 lbs.
De La Rosa did not participate in summer workouts as he rehabs a torn ACL, but head coach Brad Underwood said he’s looking forward to get De La Rosa on the court.
“He’s a veteran,” Underwood said. “He’s a grown man. He’s 7-foot, and I guess he’ll be somewhere, by the time we play, be in the 270-range, 280. He’s a guy who is a proven rebounder. He’s an extremely skilled guy. It’s been fun having him around this summer just on the sideline because you can sense his IQ, his feel for the game. He picks up things very easily.”
The Illini will begin practice in late August.
