Ayo Dosunmu has “unfinished business”, hear why the freshman is staying with the Illini

(WCIA) — It was the question all of Illini Nation was asking, will Ayo Dosunmu stay with Illinois for another season, or declare for the NBA Draft? Well, on Thursday April 18th, Dosunmu announced on twitter he will be staying with Illinois for the 2019-2020 season.

“I mean I just believe in this team so much, I feel like we can accomplish so much,” says Dosunmu. “We have so many great pieces, and all the freshman coming back, being sophomores, we’re bigger, stronger. When I committed here, I feel like I said a lot of things that I didn’t accomplish yet, and a lot of things I need to accomplish, and like I said there’s just unfinished business to take care of.”

“He had tremendous success and yet we all know that he is a very team driven very goal oriented person,” says Illinois head coach Brad Underwood. “To have a guy with his character, with his talent, he’s obviously thought this through and we’re ecstatic.”

The Illini have not made the tournament since 2013, and Dosunmu looks to improve his game in the offseason, and help bring Illinois to the Big Dance. Dosunmu led the Illini as a true freshman, averaging 13.8 points per game. ESPN ranked the point guard as a Top-50 prospect for the 2019 NBA Draft.
